Adapt to Survive

Posted on 8/11/2020

“An adaptation is a modification or change in the organism's body or behavior that helps it to survive.”

To say this year has taken its toll on communities worldwide is a gross understatement with each month passing creating new challenges.  Each state, county, city has worked to adopt school policies and procedures that consider the importance of health and safety measures while also meeting the needs of children, families, and teachers.

As school districts across the country announce their reopening plans, parents are faced with tough decisions regarding family health, education, and survival.

What if a family is protecting an elderly family member in the household?  What if families are not ready to send their children back to school?  What if working families are not able to support home learning?   Increasing numbers of families have been searching for options that might help keep their kiddos on track while navigating distance learning schedules.

That’s where YOU come in.

Gymnastics facilities around the country are developing essential programs that provide a safe space for students to participate in distance learning schedules while supported by professionals who are experts in child management.  A gym can be an optimal learning environment with scheduled programming, brain breaks filled with heart-pumping exercise, and trained staff who are capable of supporting student learning, (without the parent-child battles).

Perhaps you’re not sure if this is a good fit for your gym?  The US Gymnastics Suppliers Association has taken some of the guesswork out for you providing a “Starter Kit” of information, all customizable including letters to families or administrators,

Here’s a letter describing a suggestion for adapting your fall programming to meet the needs of your community that also might help you not only survive, but thrive!

Dear Gym Club Owner,

We know the backbone of the gymnastics industry in the United States is comprised of small business owners who run gymnastics clubs coast-to-coast. And we know how much you’ve poured your hearts and souls into your businesses. It’s an incredibly challenging time for so many of us across the industry facing the uncertainty brought forth by the COVID-19 pandemic. Now, as we head toward the fall competition season and the school year, we know you’re being pulled in a number of different directions and continue to face challenges. But, just as our athletes demonstrate overcoming adversity each and every day, we can and we will get through it – TOGETHER!

The US Gymnastics Suppliers Association has created a task force with the intention of doing what we can to help gym clubs survive this crisis.  We’ve seen many gym clubs across the country creatively thinking out-of-the-box to pivot their business and continue to provide valuable services to their community.  There are many clubs who are offering their services to families of children who are enrolled in online learning. These clubs are offering “education facilitation”, access to technology, scheduled physical activities, and much more.  One of our task force’s first initiatives was to develop a free, downloadable toolkit that would give clubs a head start on launching programs similar to what we’ve just described.  The toolkit will include the following information and each document can be downloaded and customized by the gym club with their specific information.

  1. Letter to Parents

  2. Letter to School Administrators

  3. Health Handbook

  4. FAQ Sheet

  5. Promotional Flyers 1 / Promotional Flyer 2
